The Centre for Regional Tourism in Rabat has presented on Friday the marketing tools that will be used to promote the Capital as a first class tourist destination. A formidable job that gave birth to a web site, a tourist guide, as well as a magazine.
These achievements were rewarded by thunderous applause by the crowd present for the launch ceremony on Friday the 13th of October, at the Tour Hassan Hotel. The CRT team dazzled the participants with these new tools to promote the capital city as the gateway to the Kingdom. A job well done that will help open the doors of Rabat to the world.

«Rabat is, to this date, only the 6th destination for tourists visiting our country and it must assert itself on the chessboard that has become tourism nationwide. The Capital city has its rightful place among the best known tourist destinations in Moroccos», announced Samir Kheldouni Sahraoui, the CRT President in Rabat. « It’s the only way it will thrive».

Innovative ideas were brought on to fuel the good will and ambition that were needed for this project. It all resulted in a Web site, a tourist guide and map as well as the quarterly magazine. All these ingredients will bring Rabat out of its protective administrative cocoon and propel it to a City of Legend and History, a place to discover in all of its facets. Starting with «The Tale of Two Shores» that can be found on www.visitrabat.com.

Salim Bennouri from Argaze, creator of this tool, presents 5 categories on which the website is constructed. More than just an information medium, the site proposes a cultural tour called «The Andalou Triangle», a tempting 10 day circuit in three cities to whet the tourist’s appetite: Rabat, Fes and Tangiers. These are the hopes the CRT in Rabat have put into the internet, with a site that will prosper and evolve as time goes on. For even better access worlwide, the site should soon be in English and Arabic as well as the existing French content..

It’s with the promotion of the capital city in mind that the Royal Golf Dar Es-Salam was invited by the CRT in Rabat to present their web site : www.royalgolfdaressalam.com. After visiting both Rabat and Sale on the web, one can read through the Rabat guide «Destination Rabat, the Tale of Two Shores» presented by its associate director, Najib Senhadji. Produced by Précom, this booklet is essential to those who wish to visit Rabat and its surroundings, day or night. Complementing the guide is a map of the area, elaborated by the same company in association with the CRT and the Regional Council. As well as all the practical information you would need, one can now find time to discover the places, the people and their traditions thanks to the quaterly magazine: «Rabat, from one shore to the other», published by AB Medias.

Guillaume Le Levreur, the Editor announced that this publication will not just be a back up paper, but a real magazine with «full journalistic content».

«A sound job of reporting», he added, underlining the fact that the magazine will bring new light on different parts of Rabat and its surroundings. In effect, it will be a news magazine with the ultimate goal of ”showing the hustle and bustle of the Capital rather than the image of an administrative city». The CRT of Rabat has accomplished «work done with the heart», th president confided, even with the lack of means and financing. The tools presented were self financed, but to «sell and market Rabat», in M. Kheldouni Sahraoui’s own words, “ the budget allocated to tourism in Rabat must be up to its expectations.” On the middle term, the CRT of the capital wishes to reach the million mark for overnight stays. Abbès Azzouzi, CEO of the ONMT, who was present at the ceremony, understood clearly. Furthermore, the ONMT and the CRT of Rabat are co-signers of a collaboration agreement in which the Office pledges to co-finance a large part of the work in favor of tourism in Rabat.

With the city planning projects of the Bouregreg Valley and the costal Corniche, both presented in a film depicting the transformations the city will undergo by 2010-2012, Rabat now has all the qualities of a prime tourist destination.
